Association of the Miraculous Medal

A History of the Association of the Miraculous Medal

In order to spread devotion to Mary as Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal, an association was formed shortly after the first medals were distributed. The Association was established at the Motherhouse of the Congregation of the Mission in Paris. (In appearing to Saint Catherine, a Daughter of Charity, Mary entrusted to the Daughters of Charity and the priests of the Congregation of the Mission the work of spreading this devotion to her through her medal.)

Gradually, other associations were established elsewhere in the world. Pope Pius X recognized these associations in 1905 and approved a charter in 1909.

In 1918, an Association was established by the Western Province of the Congregation of the Mission in the United States in Perryville, Missouri. Today, the ministry started by these Vincentian priests and brothers continues to grow. A vibrant Board of Directors that includes the Daughters of Charity, Vincentian priests, and many lay people help govern this flourishing organization with the mission of bringing people closer to Jesus through Mary. We are proud of our 400 year Vincentian heritage, our strong relationship with the International Association of the Miraculous Medal, and our powerful network of members in every state and thirty-five countries.

Prayer for Religious Vocations

O God, you bestow gifts on human beings for the up-building of our Church and the salvation of the whole world. Pour out your spirit to inspire young people with the desire to follow you more closely by embracing the Evangelical Counsels of poverty, chastity, and obedience. Grant your powerful and continuing assistance to all who respond to your call so that they may remain faithful to their vocation throughout their lives. May it lead them to greater fullness and make them living signs of the new person in Christ, freed from money, pleasure, and power, and outstanding witnesses of your kingdom.
