Prayer for the Church

Heavenly Father,
look upon our community of faith
which is the Church of your Son, Jesus Christ.
Help us to witness to his love
by loving our brothers and sisters in Christ without exception.
Under the leadership
of the Holy Father and the bishops
keep us faithful to Christ’s mission
of calling all men and women to your service so that there may be
“one fold and one shepherd.”
We ask this through Christ, Our Lord.

Amen.

Prayers to Saint Peregrine – Patron of Cancer Patients

PRAYING FOR YOURSELF:

Dear Saint Peregrine,
I need your help. I feel so uncertain of my life right now. This serious illness makes me long for a sign of God’s love. Help me to imitate your enduring faith when you faced the challenge of cancer. Allow me to trust the Lord the way you did in this moment of distress. I want to be cured, but right now I ask God for the strength to bear the cross in my life. I seek the power to proclaim God’s presence in my life despite hardship, anguish, and fear I now experience. O glorious Saint Peregrine, be an inspiration to me and petitioner of these needed graces from our loving Father.
Amen.

PRAYING FOR SOMEONE YOU LOVE:

Dear Saint Peregrine,
Please intercede for (NAME), that this serious illness be an occasion to draw closer to God’s love. Help him/her to imitate your enduring faith when you faced the challenge of cancer. Allow my loved one to trust the Lord the way you did in this moment of distress, asking for healing as well as the strength to bear this heavy cross. May he/she proclaim God’s presence in his/her life despite any hardship, anguish, and fear occasioned by this experience. O glorious Saint Peregrine, be an inspiration to me and petitioner of these needed graces, that they may be poured out upon NAME from our loving Father.
Amen.

A Prayer for Peace

O Jesus, Prince of Peace,

You came to God’s children to unite us in the love of Our Heavenly Father.

I ask you to pour out your mercy upon all people in the world, especially those now divided by war, hatred, fear, injustice, or misunderstanding. Help nations and neighbors let the peace of Christ rule in their hearts.

Change my heart, too, Lord. Give me the grace to recognize and remove division in my own heart, especially any judgement or unforgiveness keeping me from drawing closer to you.

All this I ask through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my Mother and constant advocate before your throne. Amen.

Prayer for Married Couples

You call all people to show unconditional love for one another.

Grant that your gift of marriage be honored in every society as a sacred sign of the mystical union of the Holy Trinity.

I ask your special blessing upon _______________________ (mention couple’s names), that the Holy Spouses intercede for their needs as they strive to attain the greatest degree of perfection in their earthly union. Shower them with the graces they need to live more fully for one another as did the Holy Family at Nazareth.

I ask this through your Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, who you willed to save your people by coming among us through the gift of the human family.

O Mary conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee.

Amen.

House Blessing Prayer

Dear God, I pray over this home and everyone in it. I ask that you will keep this home safe, both spiritually and physically. I pray for the safety of the physical house against damage, and the members of this house against injury and sickness. When trials come to this home, please give us the strength to trust in you, that your will be done. Watch over us and be our shield through the intercession of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal

Thank you, Lord, for blessing this house. Amen.

I love you infinitely, and I want you to protect me. From the depth of my heart, please, Mother of Goodness, give me your goodness. Let me gain heaven by means of it, I pray you, by your infinite love, to give me the grace so that I may love every person, as  you have loved Jesus Christ.

Prayer for the Return of Non-practicing Catholics

O Good Shepherd, you never cease to
seek out the lost, to call home the stray,
to comfort the frightened, and to bind up
the wounded. I ask you to bring (names)
back to the practice of the Catholic faith,
and to remove all obstacles that prevent
them from receiving your abundant mercy,
which flows sacramentally through
the heart of your holy Church.

Through the intercession of Mary,
the Mother of God, their guardian angels,
their patron saints and the ever-prayerful
Saint Monica, may you pardon their sins
and unshackle them from whatever
hinders their freedom to come home.
For you, O Good Shepherd, have loved us
to the end and offered yourself to the
Father for the salvation of all.

Amen.

Prayers for the return of a non-practicing Catholic
also should be accompanied by sacrificial and
private acts of fasting, and almsgiving in their name.

most kind, Mary, Mother of God, most loving consoler of those in distress, commend to your Son the souls of the faithful departed so that, because of your motherly intervention, they may joyfully arrive in your company as their longed-for home in heaven.

Amen.

O Lord,

grant those who have died the joy of your presence and us who are living the happiness of knowing this.

Amen.

Memorial Day Prayer

Heavenly Father,

On this Memorial Day, we pray for those who courageously laid down their lives for the cause of freedom. May the example of their sacrifice inspire in us the selfless love of your Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Bless the families of our fallen troops, and fill their homes and their lives with your strength and peace. In union with people of goodwill of every nation, embolden us to answer the call to work for peace and justice, and thus, seek an end to violence and conflict around the globe. We pray through Christ Our Lord.

Amen.

Memorial Day Remembrance

What will separate us from the love of Christ? Will anguish, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or the sword?…. For I am convinced that neither death nor life… will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus Our Lord.

Romans 8: 35, 38, 39

The Story of Memorial Day

After the Civil War, citizens of the North and the South felt a need to honor those fallen in the war. On various days people from different communities would place flowers at the graves of those they wished to honor. The day came to be known as Decoration Day. By 1868, the northern states were keeping the day on May 30.

In 1882, the day was renamed Memorial Day and extended to honor the fallen in other wars. Since 1950, Congress has designated Memorial Day as a day when the people of the United States might unite in prayer for permanent peace. In 1971, President Nixon declared it a national holiday and designated the commemoration for the last Monday in May.

Besides honoring those Americans from the armed forces, it is also a day for personal remembrance of all loved ones. Flowers on graves, church services, visits to the cemetery are all ways to mark the day with dignity and solemnity. In this spirit it is only fitting to make this day one of prayer in our Catholic faith with its long tradition of remembering the faithful departed.

Memorial Prayer

Father, hear our prayer. You are the source of forgiveness and salvation. By the intercession of the Immaculate Virgin Mary, may our friends, and relatives who have gone from this world come to share eternal happiness with all your saints. We ask this through Christ Our Lord.

Amen.
